Hastings

Hastings and the surrounding district - although separate for much of their history - were socially one from the beginning. An urbanised, industrial-age society grew and flourished in both town and country from the earliest settler days. People looked to the city Hastings for services and facilities regardless of where they lived; and people in both town and country relied on employment or enterprise to earn money for buying the food, medical facilities and other services they needed to survive.
We have over 40 established wineries, each with their own individual character and charm. Some are small boutique and other's, major operations who have spared no expense in setting themselves up. Here you'll find an array of impressive modern architecture set harmoniously in breathtaking landscapes. Most have cellar door tastings and many offer alfresco dining to complement the experience. Professionally guided tours are available or pick up a wine map and take yourself.
The Heritage Trails identify the many interesting treasures the Hastings District has to offer locals and visitors alike.  They offer a travelling and exploration experience incorporating scenic, cultural and historic landmarks by using brochures, direction signs and interpretive site signs to provide a fascinating journey of discovery for the independent traveller.  Their history not only means they can be shared by all, but it means that old stories of the past can be handed down to the next generation and not lost forever.

Cape Kidnappers

If you're here in summer, then Splash Planet is the answer to the heat. Stop the sizzle and play all day in a water-theme park. Splash Planet has the slides, rides and facilities to keep you and your children happy all day long. Set in a 6.5 hectares park, there's room enough for everyone.

For more 'water activities' open any time of year, there's Marineland and the National Aquarium of New Zealand. Both offer 'hands-on' experience. See the sharks being fed. Swim with the dolphins. Learn from the experts about our marvellous marine life.

The Hastings District has become home to many artists and creative people. Not only does the community value and support this group, but there is an increased awareness that they add vitality and economic growth to the region.
